Mar. 23, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Siemens AG, Europe's largest engineering conglomerate, announced on Friday that it had received an order worth EUR 750 million from China to supply 100 high-speed trains for the country's Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway line, sources reported.

Siemens said that 70 trains under the deal would be produced at its plant in Tangshan, while its Changchun plant would be producing the remaining 30. Simens' plants in Germany, Austria, Shanghai, Tianjin and Jinan will provide components such as electrical equipment and chassis for the project.

The high-speed trains will shorten the travel hour between the two cities to four hours. The Beijing-Shanghai route is set to start operation in 2010.
